Brundage et al., a group of researchers and clinicians who are experts on stuttering, worked together to identify their six essential components of fluency assessment: stuttering-related background information; speech, language, and temperament development; speech fluency and stuttering behaviors; reactions to stuttering by the speaker; reactions to stuttering in the speaker’s environment; and adverse impact caused by stuttering. We love the article appendices, which provide a list of recommended procedures in each of these areas for different age groups (from 2 years to adulthood). Print ‘em out before you prep for your next fluency assessment to make sure it ticks all the boxes.
