Infant development and COVID: Here's the data

Research updates on in-utero exposure to COVID and the vaccine, plus how infants born during the pandemic are showing some delays on the ASQ-3.

We’ve had little data on how COVID affects infants, but we are starting to learn more as the pandemic continues into its third year. Here’s what new data is telling us about some of our burning questions:

 

Does in-utero exposure to COVID affect infants’ development?

 

Shuffrey et al. found that in-utero exposure was not associated with delays at six months of age based on infants’ ASQ-3 results. This was regardless of the severity of illness or at what stage of pregnancy their parent was infected. That is such great news!…
