Autistic adults are fighting for the traction necessary to support their equal participation in society, but there is still work to be done. Finch et al. found that autistic adults still struggle to obtain necessary health and social services and to be understood by their family and friends. They also found a relationship between perceived expectations and life satisfaction. This means that autistic adults surrounded by a community with strengths-based, person-centered expectations felt satisfied with their life and those that didn’t—well—felt their life was wasted.
